The wheel Inn was my highschool hangout and therefor it will always hold a special place in my heart; late nights of food and fun in a giant smoke cloud. Thank you Michigan Legislature for the blessing of smoke free restaurants! Unfortunately The Wheel Inn has fallen off its pedestal in my heart... no more bright orange waitress skirts boooo... But the ranch dressing will always be AMAZING... I mean it is make with mayonnaise, no light miracle whip here folks. Its high calorie heaven served best when dunked into by french fries, chicken tenders, and homemade rolls. I wouldn't travel here from more than 10miles but if you are here and looking for some diner food check it out.

Used to be a hometown hangout , not anymore. Prices just go up and up and up! Great staff of workers and its not their fault. Owners just want more money and more money. Really is sad.

It's the place everyone used to go at 3am. Not alot has changed as far as food goes. It will work in a pinch. Good staff.

Your typical diner food. Their grilled Cinnamon rolls are good, their dinner rolls are tasty. It seems though, that the place uses a lot of 'frozen stuff', and the last time I had an omelette it looked like it was one of those pre-cooked, pre-frozen Omelette discs. I just had a typical breakfast there the other day and it was pretty good -- nothing special, not awful. Just your run of the mill diner. What made this place great in the past was people I was with.

I really feel the need to be honest about how The Wheel has become a total disappointment that I make every attempt to avoid. 14 years ago when I moved back to St. Johns after many years away The Wheel Inn was almost the same as when I was in High school. The place was vibrant, exciting, fun, delicious food that was a great value. Now it is a much different place. decor- boring, cheap. Brown, tan & cream everywhere. No color! I loose my appetite as soon as I enter. The cool, round, spinning counter stools have been replaced with a row of institutional chairs. Atmosphere-Dead. There's no life here anymore. It's always empty (except for a few old, die hards) No more large groups of young people hanging out, drinking coffee and having fun. Service- they are all nice people, but most are new and the spark and pride of previous wait staff just isn't there. And finally, the food- mediocre at best. I truly doubt much of anything is home made. I know the pies are not. The only thing really worth eating is the coleslaw...but I can't be sure it's home made either. It might just be Gordon Food Service slaw. The cinnamon rolls are no longer something special. And the breakfast might be the worst I've ever had. The eggs are brunt and crunchy along the edges. And when I asked for them to be redone, the next time was no better! And get this, you cannot cut the pancakes with a fork. They are so tuff that you must use a knife to cut them. This has not been a single occurrence, but consistently how it's been for the last few (probably at least 5) years. It conjures up images of Lisa Douglas' hot cakes on Green Acres! Value-this is probably my biggest complaint, because along with the degradation of the quality of the food, the prices keep going up, up, up! It's outrageous! I know I'm not the only one who feels this way! I fear The Wheel's day are numbered unless BIG changes are made (the current "new menu" just isn't cutting it! Bring back the old Wheel and I'll come back, HAPPILY!

Meh. Decor: D. Everything is brown and tan, Nothing appears to have been replaced since 1980. Service: B. Friendly staff called regulars by first names. However, my server did not ask me about my meal until I was 3/4 of the way through. Food: C. Hamburger was dry. Fries were good, generous portion. Bill: Eek! 9.08 plus tip for an olive burger and fries? Jeez! Glad I had my credit card with me. Cleanliness: C. When I arrived, two tables needed to be cleared. Please don't mop and sweep under my feet when I'm trying to eat. Ladies room toilet was covered in pee. Will I return? No.

You won't find a better 24-hour diner in Mid-Michigan! The food is greasy and good and the servers know everybody. Everybody has good memories of this St. Johns institution.

you will not find a better diner in mid michigan. the portions are generous. the burgers are good and greasy. the staff is friendly and knows everybodys names, just like cheers. the prices are good and the regulars are better. if you havent been there before, you need to order a grilled cinnamon roll, a few rolls to dip in ranch dressing (trust me), and drink lots and lots of coffee.
